Personal Mission Statement

Jay Gordon

October 10, 2007

Believing that God placed me on earth with a purpose, I will with intentional focus on the roles to which God has called me.  I will pursue wisdom as instructed in Ephesians 5:15, making the most of every opportunity

As a believer, I will seek to help others find and follow Jesus Christ, being an encouragement to those around me as I pursue a worshipful relationship with God.  (2 Cor. 5:18, Heb 10:24)

As a husband, I will seek to love and encourage my wife in order to be a blessing to her.  I will serve her by considering her needs above my own. (Eph. 5:28-30)

As a parent, I will seek to be to my children what my Heavenly Father is to me: loving, encouraging, and forgiving.  (Ephesians 4:32, 1 Thess. 5:11)

As a church leader, I will seek to lead with integrity and by example, exhibiting the overflowing life of a Christ-follower. (John 7:38)

As a person, I will seek to be physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally fit, taking care of myself so that I am able to devote attention to others (1 Cor. 6:19-20, Phil. 2:3-4).

God willing, I will fulfill these roles realizing that the strength is from Him and the glory will return to Him by a life well-lived. (1 Peter 4:11)

Scripture References (NIV)

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

Ephesians 5:28-30

In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.  After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church--for we are members of his body.

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

John 7:38

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Philippians 2:3-4

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

1 Peter 4:11

If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
